چکیده

With the advent of the Internet and World Wide Web, ubiquitous multimedia information has reached every aspect of our daily lives. Multimedia data are, however, more difficult to access due to their rich and diversified interpretations. Content-based retrieval has been proposed to provide a user-friendly interface for many multimedia applications. For image retrieval, higher accuracy can be achieved by incorporating the spatial information into the classic color histogram. Unfortunately, complete description of the joint spatialchromatic feature space incurs formidable complexity of high dimensionality. To relieve the dimensionality curse, we investigate and derive the statistical model of the spatial-chromatic distribution of images. Through extensive evaluation of large image databases, we discover that a two-parameter Nakagami-m distribution well suits the purpose. The proposed simple model is confirmed by a goodness-of-fit test and a statistical similarity measure.

Design of Single Mode Photonic Crystal Fiber with Outstanding Characteristics of Confinement Loss and Chromatic Dispersion over S to L Communication Band

In this article, a novel structure of photonic crystal fiber with nearly zero ultra-flattened chromatic dispersion and ultra-low confinement loss is presented. By replacing the circular air-holes of two first rings with the elliptical air-holes, a fiber with outstanding features of chromatic dispersion and confinement loss is designed. The proposed structure is optimized for operating in a wide...

Locally adaptive Nakagami-based ultrasound similarity measures.

The derivation of statistically optimal similarity measures for intensity-based registration is possible by modeling the underlying image noise distribution. The parameters of these distributions are, however, commonly set heuristically across all images. In this article, we show that the estimation of the parameters on the present images largely improves the registration, which is a consequenc...

Local Derivative Pattern with Smart Thresholding: Local Composition Derivative Pattern for Palmprint Matching

Palmprint recognition is a new biometrics system based on physiological characteristics of the palmprint, which includes rich, stable, and unique features such as lines, points, and texture. Texture is one of the most important features extracted from low resolution images. In this paper, a new local descriptor, Local Composition Derivative Pattern (LCDP) is proposed to extract smartly stronger...
